Civil time in India
India uses one offset for the whole country: India Standard Time at UTC+05:30, IANA Asia/Kolkata. There is no daylight saving, and there is no separate zone for Mumbai, Bengaluru or Kolkata even though those cities sit on different longitudes.
The half-hour offset is the detail that breaks naive converters. A 09:00 London meeting is 14:30 in India in winter and 13:30 in summer — never a round hour. Software that stores “IST” as an abbreviation is also unsafe; IST means Irish Summer Time in other contexts.
Kolkata sees sunrise earlier than Ahmedabad on the same civil clock. The difference is solar, not administrative. For meeting math, treat every published Indian city on this hub as the same zone.
